Our Pre and Primary school in North Riding is set on a beautiful small holding in a secure, homely environment, just 2 km from the NorthGate Shopping Centre.
We have spacious, prepared, exciting classrooms that nurture and respect the child's individuality. Our unique outdoor environment sees nature awakening the child's spirit to the rhythms and wonders of the world. Integrated with our academic programme, children will have the amazing opportunity to feed and look after the animals and plant fruit and vegetable gardens.
Our Toddler, Pre-school and Primary environments are kept separate, enabling the socialisation, growth and development of the child to be nurtured accordingly.
Each environment has a 3-year age cycle. The child will stay with the same Directress in each of the environments for all his time in that environment. This fosters stability and security for the young child. In this setting, the children will learn from each other and they learn because of each other. Younger children can observe the activities and modelling of the the older children while older children have the opportunity to reinforce their knowledge by sharing it with the younger children.
The Toddler Environment welcomes children from the age of 18 months - 3 years with between 12-18 children per 1 qualified directress and an assistant.
The Pre-school Environment caters for children from the ages of 3 - 6 years with 1 qualified directress and an assistant per 15 children.
The Primary School welcomes children between the ages of 6 - 12 years, guided by a Montessori Directress and an Assistant per 15 children.
All classes are kept small and intimate, allowing the Montessori philosophy to be fully integrated and providing the children with an opportunity to engage and explore the Montessori curriculum as they continue to grow and develop in different psychological periods in their lives.
We offer half day and full day facilities.
At Living Montessori we aim to provide authentic Montessori education, in a natural farm-like environment, using high quality Montessori equipment, and working within the framework and guidelines of the Montessori Curriculum as developed by Dr. Montessori.
We are committed to a diverse, inclusive Montessori community and thrive on the tenet of respect. The school believes in encouraging children to learn how to live responsibly, passionately and inspired whilst still maintaining compassion and humility within themselves and the world at large.
OVERVIEW
Dr. Maria Montessori, the first female physician in Italy, revolutionised the way we understand childhood development. She believed that education is a preparation for life. The core of the Montessori method of education is to help each child grow towards independence by building confidence, competence, self-esteem and respect for others. It is not merely an approach to education, Montessori is an approach to life.
